Expeditions.

I am not unfamiliar or naive with the concept of outdoor survival while on expedition, I have had formidable years of experience living on the edge through motorcycle expeditions, adventure year-round camping, and adventure tour guiding experience. These former roles support my current leadership identity in education today.

Today, I am working in a fast-growing community of ESL educators in South Korea. I’ve made countless sacrifices as a father, teacher and community supporter of Cycling international through groups, blogging and in classrooms in South Korea.  I am supporting a family of four through my career as a English Foreign language instructor in language departments of private institutes, public community centers, and universities.

In preparation for this One -Arctic2Argentina Expedition, I will have worked continuously (for 6 years in 2012, without visit to immediate family/relatives in North America*) preparing physically on the bicycle through challenging missions across Korea on my available weekends or holidays. Not having opportunity to visit my native country, intentionally, I forfeited all expenses of overseas holiday vacations travel was painful but financially speaking, a strategic move.  I purchased all necessary equipment for the expedition, spending time bicycle touring/training in South Korea, and launching my first independent expedition across western China – the HimalayasX2011.

The message here is intended to be quite clear (to potential supporters/sponsors/friends/family) in order to commit to the A2A Expedition (time, money, physical efforts and risking life and limb to name a few here), I am well prepared to engage in a life pursuit taking this expedition, into classrooms with Education Through Expeditions, UK. Further, I am committed to helping communities affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) with IDEAS foundation of Canada, and prospective grass-roots organizations along the way (to be announced later*).

I hope these efforts are worthy of a broader audience, letting others know that you are free to dream, and you can take those dreams on the road with you. It’s turning the efforts of today, into the expedition of tomorrow. With enough time, effort, participation, networking and sincerity to engage in the mission, nothing can stop you from “trying to be the change that you want to see in this world” -Mahatma Gandhi. I strongly believe in this philosophy and have made a commitment to the communities I reach with this message. Have faith in yourself, and show the courage to change the things that you can.

Turning a cycle into dust, HimalayasX2011

With or Without the help of sponsors, although private and corporate are welcome, this expedition will become a success in fulfilling the mission. I hope the experience will change the way I see the world, as I can be the change that I want to see in the world!

Sincerely,

Brian Perich, Adventure Cyclist.
